Laser Hair Removal under £50

May 27
2010

At DepiCool our main goals are to deliver great value-for-money in combination with quality service and safe treatments. We offer a flat rate fee of £49 per body area, which revolutionises the accessibility to such hi-tech hair removal methods, and enables all clients’ access to this previously costly and hi-end market product.

Although we do not offer “Laser Hair Removal” per say, we do offer Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal and permanent hair reduction.  In essence there are absolutely no differences between Laser Hair Removal and IPL – and the end results are exactly the same: a permanent reduction in 80-90% of the hair in the treated zone.

IPL is commonly mistaken for “Laser Hair Removal” but IPL does in fact offer a newer technology, treats more skin phototypes, is less painful and is more technologically advanced than laser.   IPL is now widely recognised to be one of the most effective, long-lasting and relatively painless ways to get rid of unwanted hair from different parts of the body.

Our £49 flat rate can save you up to 60% on average compared to our local competitors, and you don’t have to make any compromises in terms of service or end results: we have a proven track record and years of success and client feedback to support the fact that the service we offer is the most competitive offer in the market with no hidden costs.

Our stores are centrally located for ease of access and in some of the most prestigious locations across the UK’s capital city.  With our flagship store originating from the centre of London in Covent Garden, the DepiCool network is steadily spreading across the South East of England with the newest addition to our chain opening shortly which is further afield in Leeds, West Yorkshire.  We hope to soon offer our revolutionary flat rate IPL service across all major cities and towns in the United Kingdom.

With a wealth of experience, flat rate cost and easily accessible stores, DepiCool is positioning itself as market leader in the Intense Pulsed Light beauty industry – and all of this for under £50 per body area!!

Why is Laser Hair “Removal” so well-known?

May 14
2010

Hair removal and permanent hair reduction with Lasers has been around since the early 1960´s when the first cosmetic laser technology was born.  But it wasn’t until 1995 that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved the first lasers for hair removal; this was the Nd:YAG laser.

Laser technology, despite common belief, offers exactly the same results as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) just with a slightly different process, and IPL is said to be less painful technique and in fact can treat more skin types.

Another common misconception is that Laser Hair Removal is a permanent hair “removal” method for eliminating unwanted body hair. In actual fact the Nd:YAG product was inaccurately marketed as a permanent hair “removal” device.

The FDA has only approved one method of permanent hair “removal” which is Electrolysis.  Both Laser and IPL are methods of permanent hair reduction, offering a permanent reduction of between 80-90% of hair in the treated body zone.  The remaining hair that is left will be more brittle, thinner and prone to breaking away, but both methods are classed as permanent “reduction” methods.

Today there are more options other than laser hair removal and reduction available to the general consumer all of which have built and improved upon the initial development of the first laser technology.

Permanent Temporary Hair Removal Hair Reduction
Depilatory cream ✓ ✓
Razors/Shaving ✓ ✓
Waxing ✓ ✓
Electrolysis ✓ ✓
Laser ✓ ✓
IPL ✓ ✓
Sugaring ✓ ✓
Threading ✓ ✓

Because lasers are one of the products that were invented for hair removal, most people have heard of this method over other methods, and the initial misconception of laser hair “removal” is another reason why the public have become confused at the difference and definition of the laser technique.

Simply because the laser method has been around though for a longer period of time, does not make laser hair reduction the most suitable, popular or indeed efficient method of treatment for you hair removal needs.

Since laser hair removal has been established there have been other numerous technologies evolve, all developing to offer a better result and widen the skin suitability and ultimately open the treatment to access for more clients.

IPL as we have previously discussed, not only can treat more skin types (1-5 of the 6 phototypes, compared to the four you can treat with laser), is more cost-effective compared to laser and electrolysis and is covers a larger surface area during treatment compared to lasers, so therefore taking a shorter time to perform the treatment, this is because generally IPL treatment “heads” are up to 8 times larger than the small spot produced by lasers.

IPL also uses a much broader spectrum of light than laser. Thus IPL is suitable for a wider range of hair colours and skin types than laser. The broad spectrum of IPL light also results in the light penetrating skin across a wider range of depths resulting in a greater number of hair follicles being treated: thus demonstrating the advance over the original laser method.

So despite “laser hair removal” being one of the more well known techniques, it is in fact a more antiquated method and there are options out there which may be more suitable for your individual hair removal needs.

In other words, the best way to ensure you come out looking your hair-free best: is to simply research your chosen hair removal method well in advance, and look into individual factors that could influence your results, such as skin tone.  As we have already explored, IPL treats more skin phototypes than lasers for example.

All qualified therapists and salons would be able to talk to you about your individual needs, and at DepiCool we offer all clients a FREE patch test prior to commencing treatment.  Demonstrating we are a provider committed to customer service and highly experienced to perform your treatment.  One way to differentiate these providers is to ensure that they are approved and registered by the correct governing body and use high specification technology, like ourselves.  Ensuring all of these things will mean that you have a successful and well defined outcome to your treatment!

A Womans Thoughts on Male Hair Removal!

May 13
2010

As a woman, and working in the profession I do: I am often asked, my thoughts on male hair removal, “who” does it, is it OK or indeed what are the common zones to remove the hair.

I have plenty of male friends who deem men as “men” and for that reason they choose to keep the hair in place on their body so as not to appear effeminate but there are on the other hand more and more men taking up the art of “manscaping” and indeed reaching for the scissors, trimmer or razor.

Hair is one of those things that over the years affects most of us in some way: some want it, some don’t, some trim it, some won’t.

When it comes to male hair removal though and from a consensus of most of my girl friends, there are 5 golden rules to how you want your man to keep on top of his grooming habits, I mean we don’t want them to simply “not care” – but then we still want to be the females in this relationship!

Here are my 5 top tips for male hair removal:

  1. Facial Hair is a plus sign! Women don’t want to date their younger brother who hasn’t quite yet hit puberty, so a man with a little facial stubble is deemed as a good thing.
  2. A man’s back should be smooth! Don’t be under any illusion that a hairy back is an added quirk or indeed we feel comfy snuggling up to it at night in place of our blanket! As a whole we like a man’s back to be smooth and defined, we don’t want that hairy rug to cover up one of a man’s sexiest bits!
  3. Johnson and the twins should get a little trim: this can be hard and some men aren’t sure how much or even how to trim.  Remember that this is your crown jewels and although some men might do it for comfort, another popular reason is to trim the hedge in order to make the house look bigger. Whatever you choose you should do it because you’re comfy: but think of your partner too!
  4. Underarms should be hairy or well trimmed: women shave their underarms, men quite simply should not. Don’t get me wrong: we find it ok should you wish to have a good trim under there – there’s nothing wrong with taking pride! And come the summer months you won’t want to crack out the t-shirt and have a forest trying to escape its boundaries. But underarm grooming should be kept to a minimum.
  5. Legs and arms should be left natural: We appreciate that some professional sports personalities may need to shave these areas, but as a whole, most women accept the fact that men are the hairier of the species and as so we do still want to be reminded of that. Keeping arm and leg hair natural just enforces the Lynx affect as it were!

We would love to hear from you with your comments on male hair removal habits! Girls… what’s your take on it? Guys… do you do it? Tell us!

Male Hair Removal Trends

May 11
2010

Male hair removal is ever on the increase and in a bid to get beautiful this summer DepiCool have noted a boom in “boy bits” being depilated!

Men these days it seems are just as proud of their bodies as their female counterparts. (Quite rightly so!) So is it the weather that is seeing these men dash for our salon door or is it purely curiosity? Maybe our newly smooth ladies have been spreading the word to their male friends and relations about their DepiCool discovery!?!
We think motivations are individual, but what is clear is that it is present! We´d love to hear from you (esp. if you´re a guy!) with your thoughts on hair removal for men!

Hair removal and permanent hair reduction with IPL is a cost effective, manageable and convenient way to remove unwanted body hair. DepiCool can help you train even the most unruly unibrows, rampant mankini’s, hairy back, buttocks or even chests and get you ready to look your best for that beach holiday later this year!

No matter what the age, sexual orientation or ethnicity: male hair removal is a hot topic this summer!

IPL technology may seem like a long term and high cost investment: but compared to other permanent hair removal options with DepiCool you could save 60% on competitor prices! And recognising the difference compared to the ongoing costs of hair removal such as waxing you could potentially save enough for that deposit on the new gadget or gizmo you were questioning if you could previously afford!

The IPL process works by placing a rectangular treatment head on the area where you want the hair removed, this head emits a bright light which is absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair follicle (known as melanin) and is then turned into heat energy: thus killing the hair follicle and preventing it from re-growing.

Laser differs from IPL because laser only emits one strand of the light spectrum, whereas IPL emits several different strands enabling us to treat more skin phototypes with greater results!

DepiCool offer all clients a FREE initial Patch Test appointment in any one of our UK centres and we also welcome you to check your skin phototype online using our simple and Free Skin-Test Tool.

Its worth bearing in mind though that IPL works best on lighter skin and darker hair, and there are only a few pre and post treatment guidelines you should adhere to before undergoing the treatment, so you don’t need to be Albert Einstein in order for it to be effective!

DepiCool offer a service second to none and do not compromise on the results or client service. For a full breakdown of our price list per area just visit our website or contact a member of the team on 020 3397 0084 where we will be only too pleased to help you!

Hair Removal & Permanent Hair Reduction for Polycystic Ovary Sufferers (PCOS)

May 10
2010

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders, affecting between 3% and 5% of women 12-45 years old.

Some of the signs and symptoms of PCOS can include:

  • Weight Gain
  • Acne
  • Diabetes
  • Irregular Menstruation
  • Infertility
  • Excessive amounts of androgenic hormones

The increase in androgens contributes to many of the symptoms that women experience whom are suffering from the disease. These androgens are hormones which cause some of the typical male characteristics, and many of the symptoms of PCOS cause a distressing change in physical appearance such as excessive body hair.  Given this, DepiCool often receive enquiries from PCOS sufferers in relation to permanently help remove or reduce these levels of body hair.

In todays very body conscious society, DepiCool recognise the importance of both looking and feeling good, and that health and image are two of the most important aspects in day to day life.

For women conscious of this excessive body hair, undergoing IPL treatment with us, will give an 80-90% permanent hair reduction, and the remaining hair that is left will be much thinner, weaker and more prone to breaking away. This is why IPL is such a commonly requested treatment for PCOS sufferers.

DepiCool would like to remind clients suffering from PCOS that this may affect the treatment process, in so much as it may increase the number of sessions required (normally this is an average of 6-8) or for example, sessions may need to be spaced closer together than the average guidances: in order to reach the desired results.

At DepiCool we treat all clients on an individual basis, and your needs will always be catered to in a friendly, personal and professional manner. With your practitioner (usually at the initial patch test) you will have the opportunity to ask any questions specific to your needs and/or concerns.

At DepiCool we are pleased to offer our customers the best comparative price for IPL treatment in the market, and our £49 flat rate offers client access to top of the range IPL treatment at a revolutionary price.
Due to our unique flat rate pricing policy accessible for all clients we do not unfortunately offer any further discount on treatment. However we do have cash saving schemes such as the DepiCool Friends Plan, as well as other seasonal offers and we are confident that you won’t find the same standard of treatment at a more competitive price in our store locations.

If you have any queries relating to your treatment needs; please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team or call us directly on 020 3397 0084 where we will be only too pleased to assist you!

Rosacea and IPL Treatment

May 7
2010

Rosacea (pronounced “ro-ZAY-sha”) is an acute skin disorder which mainly affects the facial skin tissue (but can spread to other areas of the body) by way of flare ups or consistent irritation. To look at the skin appears very red, inflamed and agitated: left untreated there are also visible broken blood vessels which can appear.

While there is no cure for Rosacea and the cause is unknown, medical treatment or drugs are available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms.  At DepiCool we often have clients enquiring about our services for IPL Rosacea reduction treatment.

Whilst IPL is an effective method of reducing the side effects of Rosacea, DepiCool do not currently offer photo-rejuvenation techniques specifically for treatment of the disease. Instead we specialise in offering permanent hair reduction treatment with IPL.

In order to successfully treat Rosacea, a clinic or centre must ensure they are using the correct machinery as the process for hair reduction and skin rejuvenation does differ.

Intense Pulsed Light treatment is very similar to the laser treatment process; however the IPL machine emits multiple wavelengths of light in order to treat a broader spectrum of tissue. (Laser only emits one light spectrum: namely red) The light source emitted by the IPL machine, turns into heat and this process increases the energy build up in the blood vessels under the top layer of skin (causing the redness) and in turn this heating causes the vessels to disintegrate.

With the appropriate laser or IPL treatment clients should see a noticeable improvement in the irritation and redness of their skin, but like permanent hair reduction treatment they should remember that generally a course of treatment is required to achieve a noticeable and desired result.

DepiCool recommend clients who suspect they may have Rosacea to seek medical opinion of a skin specialist such as a dermatologist or physician in order to ascertain a definitive diagnosis and help plan a suitable treatment for minimisation of the irritation. A qualified and registered centre can also be recommended at this time to ensure client safety.

DepiCool is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which is the same governing body as those centres on Harley Street, so we understand the importance of offering appropriate treatment with qualified staff.  We hope to soon expand our services to look to offer our clients skin photo-rejuvenation treatment – so when we do we will be sure to let you know!

For more in depth information visit the Rosacea Support Group online.

All of the paperwork to allow us to reach this stage was undertaken by the DepiCool team and our number one priority was to satisfy effectively our client needs.

In completing the planning application, the local council has recognised that DepiCool is adding value as a store to the local business culture and acknowledges that our business strategy will not only increase trade in the local area, but also raise the consumer profiles.  In today’s ever fluctuating environment we deem this as a very note worthy message.

DepiCool are proud to offer such a professional and bespoke service to our franchisees, and we recognise this as one of the unique aspects of our franchise opportunity that sets us apart from other franchises.  You will be guided through the various processes whilst receiving tailored guidance specific to your needs, your store and your local area of interest.
